According to bankers informed of the event, officials from the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) met with select lenders on Thursday and discussed these problems, among others. “Since the RBI has announced its intention to conduct open market bond sales, trading volumes have gone down sharply and yields are stuck in a very narrow range,” one of the bankers said. “There is hardly any interest to go for big positions on either side.” Because they are not permitted to speak to the media, all of the bankers requested anonymity. The RBI did not respond to an email from Reuters requesting comment. On October 6, the central bank announced its intention to sell bonds through auctions in order to control banking system liquidity. Bond yields rose as a result of the unexpected news. DEFCON 1: Indian organisations unable to prevent half of serious cyberattacks, need more resources

A recent report has raised concerns about the ability of Indian organisations to fend off cyberattacks, with nearly half of such incidents going unprevented due to a lack of proactive measures. According to the report, a staggering 64 per cent of cybersecurity teams are too preoccupied with dealing with critical incidents to take a proactive stance against potential threats. The report, conducted by Columbia-based cybersecurity firm Tenable, surveyed 825 IT and cybersecurity professionals, including 69 individuals from India, in 2023. It revealed that a significant 78 per cent of Indian respondents believed their organisations could improve their defences against cyberattacks if more resources were dedicated to preventive cybersecurity efforts. However, the study also found that 71 per cent of organisations in India prioritised uptime over essential tasks such as patching and remediation, creating a disconnect between IT and security teams. Delhi’s October air quality worst since 2020. Will November be any better?

The air quality in Delhi continued to remain “very poor” for the fifth consecutive day on Wednesday, as the overall air quality index stood at 373, according to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB). There’s also a good chance that things won’t get better in November. Two data sets released on Tuesday by the CPCB on Delhi’s air quality showed that there has been progress in addressing the issue; however, nothing has changed. Let’s take a look. October AQI this year is the worst since 2020 According to CPCB data, October this year saw the “worst” air quality in Delhi since 2020. This October’s average Air Quality Index (AQI) for the Capital was 210, compared to 210 in October 2022 and 173 in October 2021. North Korea closes multiple embassies around the world due to sanctions

North Korea is planning to shutter approximately a dozen embassies, including those in Spain, Hong Kong, and several African countries, according to media reports and analysts. This move could result in the closure of nearly 25 per cent of Pyongyang’s diplomatic missions worldwide. The recent closure of North Korea’s diplomatic missions is seen as a reflection of the challenges the reclusive nation is facing in generating income from overseas activities due to international sanctions, as noted by South Korea’s unification ministry on Tuesday. On Monday, North Korean state media outlet KCNA said the country’s ambassadors paid “farewell” visits to Angolan and Ugandan leaders last week, and local media in both African countries reported the shutdown of the North’s embassies there. Both Angola and Uganda have forged friendly ties with North Korea since the 1970s, maintaining military cooperation and providing rare sources of foreign currency such as statue-building projects. Andhra Pradesh High Court grants TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu 4 weeks’ interim bail in Skill Development Scam Case

The Andhra Pradesh High Court Tuesday granted interim bail for four weeks to former Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu in the Skill Development Scam case. The court granted bail to the TDP chief on health grounds. He is currently lodged in Rajamahendravarama prison. Advocates representing Naidu had informed the High Court that he has to undergo cataract surgery. The court posted the regular bail petition to November 10. The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) had arrested Naidu on September 9 in connection with the alleged Rs 3,300 Andhra Pradesh Skill Development Corporation (APSSDC) scam. His arrested had led to apolitical turmoil in the state. Several TDP leaders alleged that Naidu’s arrest was nothing but a political “witch-hunt” and that he was held on the basis of false allegations. The Andhra Pradesh Police’s Crime Investigation Department (CID) had initiated a probe into the case in March this year. The investigation followed notices to former Indian Railway Traffic S

Supreme Court to hear electoral bonds case: Why have they created such a row?

Image
A five-judge Supreme Court bench led by Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud will begin hearing a batch of petitions challenging the constitutional validity of the Centre’s electoral bonds scheme. The hearing, starting today, comes after a three-judge bench had earlier referred the matter to a larger bench “in view of the importance of issue raised”. The apex court will look at two important issues: the legality of anonymous donations to political parties and the violation of citizens’ right to information about the funding of political parties. But for those who are confused about what electoral bonds are and why they are being questioned, we have you covered. What are electoral bonds? Similar to a promissory note, electoral bonds are an instrument through which donors can fund political parties anonymously. They were introduced by the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in 2017 with the Finance Bill (2017). On 29 January, 2018 the Narendra Modi-led NDA government notified the El
