In a fresh case of alleged forced religious conversion in Rajasthan’s Sikar village, a married Hindu woman named Harshita was reportedly coerced into converting to Islam and adopting the name Haniya. The accused, identified as Taiyyab, is a garment seller from Aligarh. He allegedly approached the victim approximately one and a half years ago through the Free Fire gaming application, which the woman had taken up to pass her time at her inlaws house as her husband lived abroad for work. Assam: Flood situation remains grave over 4.88 lakh people affected

The flood situation in Assam remained grave on Saturday with over 4.88 lakh people affected so far, an official report said. Major rivers remained in spate across the state with the meteorological department warning of more rainfall and thunderstorm in different parts. A Central Water Commission report on Friday evening said the Brahmaputra was flowing over the danger level in Nematighat (Jorhat). The water level of the Puthimari and Pagladiya rivers have breached the red mark in Kamrup and Nalbari districts respectively, it added. The Regional Meteorological Centre here has issued a ‘Yellow’ alert for Saturday, asking people to be on watch and remain updated for heavy rainfall and thunderstorm in some parts of the state. As per an official report, more than 4.88 lakh people in 16 districts are currently reeling under floods. Two persons have been killed in floods this year so far. Maharashtra: Two-wheelers claimed 7700 lives in accidents in 2022; no use of helmet main reason

Out of the roughly 15,000 road accident fatalities registered in Maharashtra in 2022, 7,700 were of two-wheeler riders, with most of these deaths occurring due to head injuries from not wearing helmets, an official said. These figures were shared in a circular issued last week by the state transport commissioner. In view of this situation, the state transport department has directed its staff to launch a state-wide campaign to counsel two-wheeler users to make them understand the importance of road safety and the legal provisions related to it, an official said. As per the official statistics revealed earlier this year, a total of 14,883 people were killed in road accidents in the state in 2022, an increase of 2,095 compared to 12,788 fatalities recorded in the pre-COVID-19 year of 2019. A Dornier aircraft of the Indian Navy airlifted a seriously ill two-and-a-half-year old child from Agatti Islands in Lakshadweep to Kochi. The medical evacuation of the child with febrile seizures, aspiration pneumonia and respiratory failure from the islands was undertaken by the Southern Naval Command of the Indian Navy last night, a defence release said on Thursday. “The patient was airlifted from Agatti Island and shifted to Kochi by Naval Dornier of INS Garuda in challenging weather conditions due to the prevailing monsoon. The India-US Defence Acceleration Ecosystem (INDUS-X) was launched by the defence departments of India and the US on Wednesday. It aims to expand the strategic technology partnership and defence industrial cooperation between the two countries, informed an official press release. A factsheet was released for operationalising the “Defence Innovation Bridge” under the Initiative on Critical and Emerging Technologies (iCET) at the event, according to the official release by the Ministry of Defence. iCET was announced by US President Joe Biden and Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2022 for cooperation on critical and emerging technologies including artificial intelligence, semiconductors and quantum computing. A man had a narrow escape after falling on a railway platform from a high-speed train in Uttar Pradesh’s Shahjahanpur this week. The video of the incident is now viral on social media platforms. The shocking incident occurred at the Shahjahanpur Railway Station when a man fell on the platform from the Patliputra Express, which was running at a speed of 110 km/hr. Centre clears $2.7 billion Micron chip testing plant; unit expected to create 5000 jobs

The central government has approved US-based chip maker Micron’s project to set up a semiconductor test and packaging unit worth USD 2.7 billion in the country, sources told PTI . The project is expected to create 5,000 jobs. The government agreed to production-linked incentives worth 110 billion rupees ($1.34 billion) for the plant, which is set to be built in PM Modi’s home state of Gujarat, Reuters reported quoting an official. Micron specialises in computer memory products, flash drives etc. It will set up an OSAT plant in India which will test and package its product to make it ready for use. “The project was cleared about a week back,” a source told PTI, confirming details of the project. Micron’s OSAT (outsourced semiconductor assembly and test) proposal was cleared after the government modified the semiconductor programme and increased the incentives. In the first phase, the government had cleared four OSAT projects which included proposals by Tata Group, Sahasra Semiconduc
