The will to progress is every Indian's duty: Key takeaways from PM Modi's marathon Independence Day speech at Red Fort

An efficient and smart India that has cut the flab of red-tapism and shed other unnecessary baggage of the past. A strong and assertive India that is not afraid of expansionist bullies in the new world order. A caring and self-reliant India that is equally committed to its urban centres and villages. That is the idea Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid out on the country's 75th Independence Day . His message, delivered from the ramparts of the Red Fort on India's 75th Independence Day, was loud and clear: the leadership doesn't lack political will and it is time for countrymen to craft new successes on the foundation that is there. There comes a turning point in the development journey of every nation, the PM said in an address that spanned close to one-and-a-half hours. He appealed to the nation to cease that moment in India's growth story. But plans fall flat without hard work, Modi reminded, and added a new dimension to his popular slogan of 'Sabka Sath, Sabka

The farm land is shrinking because of increasing population and division of families, he said. Stating that more than 80 percent farmers in the country have less than 2 hectares of farmland, the Prime Minister said, "Earlier the policies did not focus on small farmers. Now keeping farmers in mind, farm policies and reforms are being made." Be it reforms in Fasal Bima Yojana, increasing the minimum support price (MSP) by 1.5 times (the cost of production), linking farmers with Kisan Credit Card (KCC) for cheaper farm loans, taking solar power sch

Independence Day 2021: A look at mantras from our freedom fighters that resonate even today

After a long struggle against the British rule, India achieved independence on 15 August 1947. It has been 75 years since then. It was owing to the efforts of leaders like Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, Mahatma Gandhi, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, Jawaharlal Nehru among others and that of our freedom fighters that the British finally decided to leave India. In the British House of Commons, on 4 July 1947, the Indian Independence Bill was introduced and passed two weeks later. The Bill proclaimed that the British rule would finally end on 15 August 1947. Independence Day 2021: Is India celebrating 74th or 75th anniversary of freedom struggle? Here's the answer

Every year, 15 August is commemorated as the day India gained independence from British rule. The day is observed as the culmination of our decades-long attempt to achieve freedom from colonial domination. From the time the country’s first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru unfurled the Indian flag at the Red Fort, India has been marching on, intent on continuing its “tryst with destiny”. But one issue that people find confusing is if the country is celebrating its 74th or 75th anniversary this year. The Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav initiated by the Union government has posted that this year marks 75 years since India achieved independence. The answer is simple. If you consider 1947 as the base year and perform calculations, then we are celebrating 74 years of freedom. However, if we consider 15 August 1947 as the first day of independence, then we are observing 75 years of independence. Continuing the established tradition, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the nation from the ramp
