COVID-19: India logs 2,380 new cases, 15 deaths

As many as 2,380 new COVID-19 cases were reported in India in the last 24 hours, according to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. The number of active cases came down to 27,212 from 30,041 the day before, as per the health ministry data. With the fresh cases, the COVID-19 tally increased to 4.49 crore (4,49,69,630). The death toll climbed to 5,31,659 with 15 fatalities, the data updated at 8 am stated. At 27,212, the active cases comprise 0.06 per cent of the total infections. The national COVID-19 recovery rate was recorded at 98.75 per cent, the ministry said. The number of people who have recuperated from the disease surged to 4,44,10,738, while the case fatality rate stood at 1.18 per cent. According to the ministry’s website, 220.66 crore doses of COVID-19 vaccines have been administered so far under the nationwide vaccination drive. Rajouri Encounter: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh arrived in Jammu on Saturday to assess the situation in the continuing conflict between security forces and Pakistan-backed terrorists in the Kandi region of Rajouri district. India expected to become 50% non-cash economy in consumption by 2026

India is expected to become a 50 per cent non-cash economy in consumption in the next three years. According to a new report, the person-to-merchat digital transactions could reach over $1.5 trillion by the Financial Year 2026. According to a new report from Bain & Company, the household consumption of the country is expected to reach more than $3 trillion by FY26. This is because of India’s upper-middle and high-income segments, as UPI transactions make up a significant portion at around $1 trillion person-to-merchant payments. Kashmir: NIA conducts multiple raids in Baramulla, targets terrorist network

In yet another move against Pakistan-backed terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) conducted raids at four places in Baramulla district on Thursday. The NIA raids, which were looking for evidence of terrorist activities, targeted four places in the Old Town area of Baramulla district in northern Kashmir. During the raids, the NIA teams were accompanied by police and CRPF, officials told the media. These raids are part of an extensive NIA operation against terrorist funding in Jammu and Kashmir. Earlier this week, the NIA had raided 12 places in Jammu and Kashmir as part of its investigation into a case involving a plot to support terrorism by Pakistan. Mumbai police detain five for extorting money online while posing as policemen

The Mumbai Police on Tuesday detained five people, including two from Kolkata and one from Hyderabad, for allegedly extorting money online while impersonating as police officers. An official from the Bangur Nagar police station, according to PTI , said that they had received many reports where people pretending to be police officers called victims and claimed that they have found a parcel with the victim’s identity, which contained drugs or weapons. When the victims got scared, the callers obtained their bank account numbers and forced them to download a software. Money was transferred from the victim’s account to the fraudsters’ account using this method, reported PTI . Similar complaints were filed in Pune and Sangli. During the investigation, police caught two suspects from Kolkata, two from Thane, and the main suspect from Hyderabad.
