Lotus motif for RS, peacock for LS: 900 artisans from UP weaved carpet for new Parliament building

In the new Parliament building, premium hand-knotted carpets weaved laboriously by as many as 900 artisans from Uttar Pradesh for a whopping “10 lakh man-hours” will adorn the floors of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha. The new Parliament building, to be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday, will showcase exquisite motifs of national bird peacock and national flower lotus in the carpets of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, respectively. Obeetee Carpets, the over-100-year-old Indian company behind the project, said weavers crafted more than 150 carpets each for Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha “before stitching them into a single carpet in the form of a semi-circle to sync with the architecture of each of the Houses spread across 35,000 square feet of area”. “The weavers had to craft the carpets for halls measuring up to 17,500 square feet each. This posed a significant challenge for the design team, as they had to meticulously craft the carpet in separate pieces and seamlessly join them

As violence in Manipur takes a new turn, Army Chief Manoj Pande will visit the north-eastern state on Saturday to review the situation, army officials said. Chhattisgarh official pumps out 21 lakh litres of water from reservoir to retrieve 'new' phone; suspended

In a shocking incident from Chhattisgarh, a government employee allegedly had 21 lakh litres of water pumped out of a reservoir after his mobile phone fell into it in the state’s Kanker district. The employee identified as food inspector Rajesh Vishwas was suspended for the colossal waste of water in the peak of summer at the Paralkot reservoir last weekend. The incident came to light on Friday, an official told PTI. Vishwas had gone to the reservoir for an outing with his friends on 21 May when his mobile phone fell into a waste weir, a channel that carries away surplus water, while taking a selfie, the official said. Vishwas allegedly roped in villagers and got diesel pumps to empty the water from the dam till his mobile phone was retrieved on Thursday, he added. The whole exercise lasted for three days. The Supreme Court has granted interim bail to Aam Aadmi Party leader Satyendra Jain on medical grounds. The former cabinet minister has been in custody since May 2022 over his alleged involvement in a money laundering case. The order was passed by a vacation bench comprising Justice JK Maheshwari and Justice PS Narasimha. Jain has been granted interim bail for six weeks to seek treatment in a private hospital. Mizoram to ensure displaced children from violence-hit Manipur continue schooling

As violence in Manipur rages on, forcing several people to displace from their homes and seek temporary rehabilitation in the neighboring state of Mizoram, the government of Mizoram has assured that children from the violence-hit state can continue their schooling there. Sub-divisional educational officers and principals of state-run higher secondary schools said in a letter sent to all district and school authorities to allow the displaced students to be enrolled in state-run and government-aided schools if they seek admission. “The recent turmoil in Manipur has caused a large-scale influx of internally displaced children into Mizoram. It is therefore requested that all district and school authorities allow admission even if proper documentation can’t be provided for the children if and when they solicit admission to schools,” the letter written by education department director Lalsangliana said.
