Viral video shows youngsters abusing puppy in Uttar Pradesh’s Bareilly, netizens demand action

Lucknow: A video of boy and girl torturing a puppy from Bareilly city in northern India’s Uttar Pradesh has gone viral on social media. The video shows the youngsters’ brutality towards the four-legged for the sake of amusement. In the video shared by IAS Awanish Sharan on Twitter, the young duo can be seen holding the puppy by its legs and swinging it in the air, tossing the creature – all for mindless fun. New tax system less complicated, says Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman

New Delhi : Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, speaking exclusively to Rahul Joshi, Group Editor-in-Chief, Network18, said, “the new tax system is better and less complicated”. Sithraman’s statement came two days after she presented Budget 2023-24 in Parliament. She added that the government has not set a timeframe for the new regime. “I have not given a timeframe…Every Indian should make his or her choice. I would say lower tax rate is better…I would say it will be a better system and least complicated,” she said. “If a taxpayer is left with more money, he/she can decide where to put his/her money. I do not underestimate the taxpayer.” Elaborating further, Sitharaman said: “The PM was clear that taxpayers should know what they are paying, so make it simple. From India's Easternmost Village to near LAC: Modi government paves way for 78-km Arunachal road

From its easternmost village in Arunachal Pradesh, India will now be getting a new 78-km-long strategic road right up to four kilometres from the Line of Actual Control (LAC), touching almost the crucial tri-junction of India, China, and Myanmar. The Narendra Modi government on 1 February began the process to build a new road from Dong village to Jachep camp in Arunachal Pradesh, inviting bids to construct it within the next three years. The road is significant as Dong is the country’s easternmost village and the new road will lead to Jachep, which is located about 4 km short of the China border and 20 km from the Myanmar border. Once completed at a cost of nearly Rs 200 crore, the 3.75-metre-wide single-lane carriageway could become an extremely vital project to transport men, arms and ammunition close to the LAC and the tri-junction with China and Myanmar. New Delhi: A day after India and the United States launched the joint initiative on Critical and Emerging Technology or iCET, India on Thursday said that the move has added a crucial new dimension of strategic technology collaboration to the existing robust bilateral partnership between the two countries. “iCET is led by the National Security Councils of India and the US. The first meeting of iCET has taken place. We believe through iCET India and the United States have added a whole new dimension of strategic technological collaboration to the robust bilateral agenda,” Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Arindam Bagchi told a media gathering in New Delhi. India keeps aside Rs90,000 Cr in Budget 23-24 for fuel, ammo, spares with eye on China, Ukraine war

New Delhi: Even as India’s defence budget saw a significant hike of around 13% for the financial year 2023-24, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has also allocated a major jump of 44% in the sustenance budget of the Indian military. This amount, which is around Rs 90,000 crore will be used for maintenance of weapons, equipment and other assets, replenishing stocks of fuel and ammunition and procurement of critical spares along with other capabilities. This amount excludes pay and other allowances. “This will cater to sustenance of weapon systems, platforms including ships, aircraft and their logistics, boost fleet serviceability, emergency procurement of critical ammunition and spares; procuring of niche capabilities to mitigate capability gaps wherever required, progress stocking of military reserves, strengthening forward defences,” the Defence Ministry said in a statement. New Delhi: The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) may have to face a new competitor in the race to build a new light tank for the Indian Army. The Kalyani Group may enter the race to build 354 light weight tanks for the Indian Army. This may pose a challenge for the DRDO, which is working on a prototype for a light tank in collaboration with Larsen & Toubro (L&T) as part of Project Zorawar. Accroding to a report by Indian Defence Research Wing (IDRW), the prototype developed jointly by the DRDO and L&T is expected to undergo mobility trials after its launch later this year. The government may grant permission to the Kalyani Group to go ahead with its plans although the company – which has previously collaborated with American General Dynamics Land Systems – is yet to disclose its partner in this process.
