Hathras case: Amit Malviya tweets video of victim; NCW chief says action is illegal if she is a rape victim

A video shared by BJP IT cell chief Amit Malviya revealing the identity of the Hathras rape victim has evoked sharp reactions from the National Commission for Women and the Congress. Malviya had shared the video, in which the face of the rape victim is clearly visible, on 2 October on Twitter. As of Sunday morning, the tweet is still on the micro-blogging platform. National Commission for Women chairperson Rekha Sharma has been quoted as saying by The Indian Express , "If she is a rape victim, then the incident of tweeting the video is really very unfortunate and is also absolutely illegal." Two Naval officers killed in glider crash during routine training sortie in Kochi

Two Navy personnel died as a glider on routine flight crashed in Kochi on Sunday morning, a Defence spokesperson said. He said the naval power glider was on a routine training sortie and took off from INS Garuda. It crashed near Thoppumpady bridge close to the naval base at around 7 am. Lt Rajeev Jha and Petty officer Sunil Kumar, who were in the glider, were rescued from the crash site and shifted to INHS Sanjivani. However, they were declared brought dead, the spokesperson said. Pushpa Bhave, activist who fought for united Maharashtra and Goa liberation, passes away at 81

Mumbai: Veteran social activist Pushpa Bhave died following a prolonged illness, sources close to her said on Saturday. She was 81. Bhave died on Friday night. She is survived by her husband Anand Bhave, the sources said. Journalist-activist Jatin Desai described Bhave as a multi-faceted personality. She was also an academician and an intellectual, who fought for the rights of common citizens, he said. Bhave had taken part in the Samyukta Maharashtra movement and the Goa liberation movement. During the Emergency, she had offered her home as shelter to underground political workers like Mrinal Gore. New Delhi: In a relief to individual borrowers and medium and small industries, the Centre has agreed in the Supreme Court to waive compound interest (interest on interest) charged on loans of up to Rs 2 crores for a six-month moratorium period announced due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Srinagar: Bodies of three men from Rajouri, killed in an alleged fake encounter by Army in Shopian district of Jammu and Kashmir in July this year, have been exhumed and handed over to their families, officials said on Saturday. The exhumation was done late on Friday night at an unidentified location in north Kashmir — hours after Director General of Jammu and Kashmir Police (DGP) Dilbag Singh said the legal process to exhume and handover the bodies was on and would be completed soon. The Uttar Pradesh government on Saturday allowed the media and Opposition leaders to travel to the native village of a 19-year-old Dalit girl who died on Tuesday, a fortnight after being allegedly gangraped by four upper caste men in the Hathras district . Sushant Singh Rajput's death is a case of suicide and not murder, Dr Sudhir Gupta, who led the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) panel re-evaluating the post-mortem and viscera reports has said. "Sushant death is a case of suicide. Murder completely ruled out," Dr Sudhir Gupta said, reported India Today . As per the report, the panel of AIIMS doctors was re-evaluating Sushant Singh Rajput's post-mortem and viscera reports based on the 20 percent viscera sample that was available with them. Forensic agencies also examined a laptop, two hard disks, a canon camera, and two mobile phones. AIIMS had submitted the findings to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on 29 September. Oppressed for generations, women cane cutters in Maharashtra continue to work in inhuman conditions, shows study

Usha Dhepe migrates every year to Kolhapur from her native Osmanabad district to cut sugarcane. Some years ago, her husband committed suicide and she was left to fend for her family of three children. In the local jargon, a couple which cuts the sugarcane and loads it on trucks is called ‘ koyta ’ (sickle). A widow woman is ' ardha koyta ' or half a sickle as her husband is no longer there. She also gets half the payment which is usually in the form of an advance. This ‘ koyta ’ tag in a way symbolises the inhuman conditions of the workers. According to Subhash Kakuste, general secretary of the Mahasangh, the usage of the word had invited rebuke from a judge in Gujarat some 15 years ago when an order was passed hiking the wages of cane cutters who had migrated to the state, but not much has changed. Since its formation in 1960, the Maharashtra Rajya Sakhar Kamgar Mahasangh, has worked without success to get social security for the cane cutters. But except for a wage increase
