Union minister Arjun Ram Meghwal, who claimed papad helps fight coronavirus, tests COVID-19 positive

Union minister Arjun Ram Meghwal, who had claimed that a brand of papad could help produce antibodies to fight coronavirus, on late Saturday night said he'd tested positive for COVID-19. Meghwal, the minister of state for heavy industries and parliamentary affairs, said he was tested twice after developing COVID-19 symptoms and found to be positive in the second report. Meghwal, the BJP MP from Bikaner, said his health "is fine" and that he has been admitted to AIIMS Delhi. "After developing symptoms of COVID-19 I had undergone a test and was found positive in the second report. Nine dead after blaze at makeshift COVID-19 facility in Andhra Pradesh's Vijayawada; CM orders probe

At least nine are dead and several others feared trapped after a fire broke out at a private hotel that was being used as a makeshift COVID-19 facility in Andhra Pradesh's Vijayawada district on Sunday morning. This incident comes just days after eight patients being treated at a designated COVID-19 hospital in Ahmedabad  died in a blaze. Rescue operations are on at the Hotel Swarna Palace, where a short circuit in an air-conditioner on the ground floor was the likely reason behind the fire, police officials told Indian Express . After receiving a call at 5.15 am, fire tenders were rushed to the spot. The National Disaster Relief Force (NDRF) too joined rescue operations, as per the newspaper. Even as flames spread to the third and fifth floors , which were housing the patients, at least seven people were seen jumping from the terrace to escape the fire. Two others died from asphyxiation. Rajasthan: Two arrested for assaulting Muslim auto driver over refusal to chant ‘Modi Zindabad’, ‘Jai Shri Ram’

Sikar : Two people were arrested for allegedly assaulting a 52-year-old auto-rickshaw driver after he refused to chant "Modi zindabad " and " Jai Shri Ram " in Rajasthan’s Sikar, police said Saturday. Gaffar Ahmed Kacchawa complained to police that the accused stole his wristwatch and money, broke his teeth and left him with a swollen eye and injuries on face after he refused to do so. According to the FIR, around 4 am on Friday, Gaffar was returning after dropping passengers at a nearby village when the two men in a car stopped him and asked for tobacco. However, they declined to take the tobacco he offered and allegedly asked him to chant “Modi zindabad” and “Jai Shri Ram”, police said. On his refusal, they thrashed him with a stick. “We arrested two people on Friday after the complaint was lodged. On 20 June, the Delhi government issued an  order  capping prices for COVID-19 treatments in private hospitals “with the proviso that all COVID-19 beds would be at rates given by the committee (formed under NITI Aayog member Dr VK Paul) subject to upper limit of 60 percent of the beds of total hospital bed capacity". According to the order, the prices for all National Accreditation Board for Hospitals & Healthcare Providers-accredited hospitals were to be capped at Rs 10,000, Rs 15,000, and Rs 18,000 for isolation beds, ICU beds without ventilators, and with ventilators support, respectively. Similarly, for all non-NABH accredited hospitals, the prices were Rs 8,000, Rs 13,000, and Rs 15,000, respectively. India has lowest COVID-19 cases per million, says health ministry; tally nears 21 lakh, fatalities reach 42,518

New Delhi: With a spike of 61,537 new COVID-19 cases and 933 deaths India's COVID-19 tally surged to 20,88,612 on Saturday, as per the Union health ministry. The death toll due to the disease now stands at 42,518 in the country, according to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW). The COVID-19 tally of 20,88,612 cases includes 6,19,088 active cases, 14,27,006 cured/discharged/migrated. COVID-19 confirmed cases had crossed the 10 lakh mark in India on July 17 when the tally reached 10,03,832. Compared globally, India has one of the lowest cases per million at 1,469 as against the global average of 2,425 and added that the Case Fatality Rate stands at 2.04 per cent. With 48,900 patients discharged in the last 24 hours, India's total recoveries from COVID-19 has reached 14,27,005. The recovery rate stands at 68.32 per cent. New Delhi: An AirAsia India aircraft departing for Mumbai on Saturday morning aborted its take-off at Ranchi airport after encountering a bird hit, said the airline spokesperson. This incident occurred a day after an Air India Express flight from Dubai with 190 people onboard overshot the runway at Kozhikode airport in rainy conditions and went down 35 feet into a slope before breaking up into two pieces, killing at least 18 people. The Jharkhand Academic Council, or JAC, has started the application process for the compartment examinations for Classes 10 and 12. The board has mentioned that students can apply for a maximum of three subjects, which includes the optional subject. Candidates, who have failed to qualify in one or more than one subject, can apply for the compartment exams 2020 at  jac.jharkhand.gov.in  within the stipulated time period. While class 10 students have till 25 August to apply, higher secondary students must apply within 26 August, 2020. IISc Bengaluru launches admission portal for JAM 2021 exams; registration to start from 10 Sept

The Indian Institute of Science Bengaluru (IISc Bengaluru) has announced the dates for JAM 2021. The registration process for JAM 2021 will commence from 10 September. The application form for JAM 2021 will only be available online on the official website jam.iisc.ac.in . The last date to fill the application form is 15 October. The exam will be conducted on 14 February and the results will be announced on 20 March. Apart from Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics, Biotechnology, Geology and Mathematical Statistics, the admission test will also include Economics, reported NDTV . The test will be conducted in a computer-based mode and will be held in two shifts. JAM is an all-India based examination jointly conducted by the Indian Institiutes of Technology and Indian Institute of Science.
