India reports 42,766 new COVID-19 cases; positivity rate at 2.45%

India reported 42,766 new COVID-19 cases and 308 deaths, according to data shared by the health ministry on Sunday. Total infections have now risen to 3,29,88,673 and deaths to 4,40,533. A 12-year-old boy, who was admitted to a hospital in Kozhikode after showing symptoms of Nipah virus, passed away on Sunday. His samples, which were sent to the Pune National Institute of Virology, confirmed the presence of Nipah virus. No foreign examination centres will be alotted for the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Advanced this year, as per the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kharagpur. In its official notification , the institute has stated it will not conduct the JEE (Advanced) 2021 in any foreign centre/country due to the prevailing COVID-19 pandemic. JNVST 2021: Navodaya Vidyalaya Class 6 exam rescheduled for two MP districts, check details here

The Class 6 entrance test for the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya Selection Test (JNVST) has been rescheduled by the Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS) for the Sheopur and Shivpuri districts of Madhya Pradesh. The test, which was earlier scheduled to be held on 11 August was postponed for administrative reasons. The new date of the JNVST 2021 for these districts is 26 September, as per the official notification . Students can download the admit cards from the official website https://navodaya.gov.in . The JNVST 2021 for Class 6 students was held in other districts on 11 August for a duration of two hours in English, Hindi, and the regional language of each state. Petrol and diesel prices remained static on Saturday. In Delhi, petrol costs Rs 101.34 a litre while the rate of diesel was Rs 88.77 per litre. In Mumbai, petrol can be bought at Rs 107.39 per litre and diesel costs Rs 96.33 for one litre. In Chennai, a litre of petrol is priced at Rs 99.08. On Saturday, the price of a litre of diesel was Rs 93.38. Petrol in Kolkata costs Rs 101.72 per litre while diesel costs Rs 91.84 a litre. While petrol can be bought at Rs 109.77 in Bhopal and diesel costs Rs 97.57 a litre. Petrol and diesel prices  are revised by the oil marketing companies including Bharat Petroleum, Indian Oil and Hindustan Petroleum. The new prices are implemented at 6 am every day. As the clamour for postponing the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test - Undergraduate (NEET UG) 2021 grows, over 15,000 students have signed a petition on change.org  for delaying the examination. Students have demanded that the entrance test be shifted to October. The petition asks the Centre to reconsider its decision of holding NEET UG 2021 on 12 September. Demolition of Supertech's twin towers in Noida: Expert Sharad B Sarwate explains how buildings are razed

The Supreme Court, on 31 August, ordered demolition of Supertech's 40-storey twin towers in Noida within three months and that the builder would have to bear the expenses for the same. The court said that the work of demolition shall be carried out by Central Building Research Institute (CBRI) to ensure safe demolition. In case CBRI refuses, a new authority will be appointed, the bench had said. Vandana Ramnani spoke to India's demolition expert Sharad B Sarwate to understand how a building is demolished. Sarwate was roped in by the Kerala government as a consultant to help guide the demolition of the four blocks of apartments in Maradu, Kochi following the Supreme Court order in 2019. NEET UG 2021: Admit cards likely to release on 9 September; check details here

The admit cards for the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) UG 2021 are likely to be released on 9 September by the National Testing Agency (NTA). So far, there has been no official date or announcement for the release of the hall ticket. However, as per the information brochure released by the agency earlier, the hall tickets will be issued three days prior to the examination date. Amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic , the NEET UG exam is scheduled to be conducted on 12 September. Recently, the NTA had shared details on the city allotment with candidates.
