Oxfam lands in CBI net for alleged FCRA violation

New Delhi: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is all set to launch a probe into the internal affairs of Oxfam India, a non-governmental organisation (NGO), for alleged violations of India’s Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act, 2010. Sources familiar with the matter claimed that the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) found that the think tank continued to transfer foreign funds to various entities despite the restrictions put by FCRA. During a survey carried out by the Income Tax department, multiple emails were found which revealed that Oxfam India was allegedly planning to circumvent provisions of the FCRA by routing funds to other FCRA-registered associations or through the for-profit consultancy route, sources said. The survey by MHA also “exposed” Oxfam as an instrument of the foreign policy of foreign organisations or entities, which have funded the organisation liberally over the years. Beijing: China played tit-for-tat with India by freezing visas of two Indian journalists this week. Now, Chinese foreign ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning on Thursday claimed that Chinese journalists in India receive “unfair and discriminatory” and therefore, it took “corresponding counter measures”. Earlier this week, China barred two Indian journalists posted in Beijing from returning to their jobs in the Chinese capital from India. They were told that their visas have been frozen. New Delhi : Law Minister Kiren Rijiju on Thursday informed that linking Aadhaar details with the voter identity card has not started yet. While speaking in Rajya Sabha, Rijiju noted that the exercise was “process driven” and no target or timelines have been given for the proposed linkage. In a written reply, he also asserted that the names of those who do not link their Aadhaar details with the voters’ list will not be struck off the electoral rolls. Section 23 of the Representation of the People Act, 1950, as amended by the Election Laws (Amendment) Act, 2021, provides for the electoral registration officers to require the existing or prospective elector to provide the Aadhaar number for establishing identity on a voluntary basis. New Delhi : Cautioning that the fight against inflation is far from over, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on Thursday projected marginal easing in retail inflation to 5.2 per cent in the current fiscal. New Delhi: The public sector metallurgy division of the Defence Ministry known as Mishra Dhatu Nigam Ltd (Midhani) has created a titanium alloys hub employing cutting-edge titanium casting technology. According to Midhani CMD Dr. SK Jha, this technology is expected to reduce the weight of main battle tanks. Low maintenance costs are a result of titanium alloys’ exceptional corrosion resistance and high strength-to-weight ratio. It appears that the titanium alloy hub has been produced for the Zorawar Light Tank, which has been jointly designed by the DRDO and private sector company L&T. The Zoarawar Light Tank is currently undergoing construction rollout and is expected to go into the trial phase later this year. Russian crude supplies to India at discounted rates not to be affected by Opec+ oil output cut

New Delhi: Despite Opec and its allies, including Russia, decision of cutting oil output by around 1.16 million barrels, Indian refiners would continue to get uninterrupted Russian crude oil at existing discounted rates. India imports 85 per cent of its oil need and there would be no change in the buying patterns of refiners of the country after the announcement of cut in crude oil production. “Indian refiners have been assured of uninterrupted crude supplies at the existing rates for now,” a report by Business Standard quoted Indian government officials as saying. “There have been several reports of changes in India’s buying patterns after the global price cap took hold. But Indian refiners have continued benefiting from favourable purchase agreements,” a senior official said. New Delhi: “Zangnan (Arunachal Pradesh) is part of China’s territory… is within China’s sovereign rights,” said Beijing, hours after India “outrightly rejected” China’s attempt to rename 11 places in the Indian state. “In accordance with relevant stipulations of the administration of geographical names of the State Council, competent authorities of the Chinese government have standardised the names of some parts of Zangnan. Srinagar: Thirty members of the Jammu and Kashmir branch of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) have received threats from The Resistance Front (TRF), an offshoot of terrorist organisation Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) which is based in Pakistan. Sikkim: 7 tourists killed in avalanche in Nathu La area near India's border with China

Gangtok: Seven tourists were killed and 11 others injured in a major avalanche in Sikkim’s Nathu La area on Tuesday, police officials said. The injured are being brought to the state capital Gangtok’s hospital. “Rescue and clearance operations are still on,” a senior police official said. The Indian Army in a statement said, “By 3 PM, 14 persons were rescued and taken to a nearby Army medical facility. However, seven persons succumbed.
