At least five killed, 25 injured after bus hits stationary car on Agra-Lucknow Expressway

Kannuaj: At least five people were killed and around 25 injured when a bus rammed into a stationary car on the Agra-Lucknow Expressway in the district on Sunday, an official said. The bus was carrying around 45 labourers from Bihar's Madhubani district to Delhi, Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Chhibramau, Gaurav Shukla, said. Both the vehicles overturned and fell off the expressway. The driver of the bus is among the five deceased. Locals rushed to the spot and helped police evacuate trapped passengers. The injured passengers have been admitted to hospitals in Saurikh and Saifai. Nidan Singh Sachdeva, Sikh community leader kidnapped in Afghanistan on 22 June, released says MEA

New Delhi:  Nidan Singh Sachdeva, a Sikh community leader of Afghanistan who was kidnapped in Paktia province last month, was released from captivity on Saturday, the Ministry of External Affairs said. "We convey our appreciation to the government of Afghanistan and tribal elders from the area, whose efforts secured the return of Nidan Singh," it said. In a statement, the MEA said the "targeting and persecution" of minority community members by terrorists at the behest of their external supporters remains a matter of grave concern. "In a recent decision, India has decided to facilitate the return of Afghan Hindu and Sikh community members facing security threats in Afghanistan to India," it said. Telugu poet Varavara Rao, who tested COVID positive, moved to Mumbai's Nanavati Hospital for neurological treatment

Mumbai : Poet and Elgar Parishad case accused Varavara Rao, a COVID-19 patient, was on Sunday shifted to the Nanavati Hospital in Mumbai for neurological and urological treatment, an official said. Rao, 80, was undergoing treatment at the state-run St George Hospital in south Mumbai since Thursday after being tested coronavirus positive. During treatment for COVID-19, doctors found his condition to be stable but also observed he has neurological problems, the official said. Neurologists from the state-run JJ hospital checked him on Friday and he was diagnosed as having delirium, a hospital official said. Delirium is an acutely disturbed state of mind characterised by restlessness, illusions, and incoherence, occurring in intoxication, fever, and other disorders. Govt issues notice to Twitter after recent hacking targeting global high-profile users

New Delhi : India's cybersecurity nodal agency CERT-In has issued a notice to Twitter asking the micro-blogging platform for full details of a recent global hacking incident targeting high-profile users, as it sought information on the number of Indian users affected, as well as impact on data, a source said. The source privy to the development told PTI that CERT-In has also asked Twitter for information on number of users from India who have visited the malicious tweets and links, and whether the affected users have been informed by the platform about unauthorised access to their Twitter accounts. Twitter did not comment on an email query by PTI . The government has also demanded information on vulnerability exploited by attackers and modus operandi of the attack, and sought details of remedial measures taken by Twitter to mitigate the impact of the hacking incident. 'Cases in rural areas a bad sign': IMA chairman claims COVID-19 community spread has begun in India

New Delhi: With one million people getting affected by COVID-19, the Indian Medical Association (IMA) is of the view that community spread has started and the situation is pretty bad. While speaking to ANI , Dr VK Monga, the Chairman of IMA Hospital Board of India said, “This is now an exponential growth. Every day the number of cases is increasing by more than around 30,000. This is really a bad situation for the country. There are so many factors connected with it but overall this is now spreading to rural areas. This is a bad sign. AIIMS panel gives nod to begin human clinical trial of COVID-19 vaccine Covaxin from 20 July

New Delhi: The AIIMS Ethics Committee on Saturday gave its nod for a human clinical trial of the indigenously developed COVID-19 vaccine candidate Covaxin following which the premier hospital is likely to begin the exercise by enrolling healthy volunteers from Monday. AIIMS-Delhi is among the 12 sites selected by the Indian Council for Medical Research (ICMR) for conducting phase I and II human trials of Covaxin. In phase I, the vaccine would be tested on 375 volunteers and a maximum of 100 of them would be from AIIMS. "The AIIMS Ethics Committee gave its approval for starting the human clinical trial of the indigenously developed Covaxin today. The Karnataka Common Entrance Test (KCET) admit cards have been released online by the Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA) on cetonline.karnataka.gov.in . The examination is scheduled to be held on 30 and 31 July. The KCET 2020 was earlier slated to take place on 22 and 23 April but was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Students can download the Karnataka CET admit cards by 28 July . The examination will be held across 129 exam centres, including the new 75 centres, set up in view of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. The National Health Mission (NHM), Assam, has released a notification for recruitment of 150 laboratory technicians on temporary basis for an initial period of three months for COVID-19 duties. Those who get shortlisted will get a monthly remuneration of Rs 16,500. One can apply till 19 July by visiting the official website of NHM at nhm.assam.gov.in . Manipur ADG Arvind Kumar shoots self, taken to hospital; condition serious, says state's chief secretary

Imphal: A top officer of Manipur police department allegedly shot himself in his office Saturday afternoon, officials said. The officer, Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) Arvind Kumar, was taken to a hospital following the incident. Top brass of the state police and officials, including Chief Secretary J Suresh Babu, were at Raj Medicity where Kumar was being treated. The chief secretary said Kumar's condition is serious but he is responding to the treatment and has also spoken to the doctors. "He will be sent to Delhi, once his condition improves," Babu added. Kumar, a 1992-batch IPS officer of the Manipur cadre, shot himself with his service revolver in his office in Manipur Rifles Compound, said a senior police officer. Thiruvananthapuram: A team of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Saturday took Swapna Suresh and Sandeep Nair, accused in the Kerala gold smuggling case, to various locations in Thiruvananthapuram for evidence collection including their residences. The NIA team split up into two groups and took the two accused in separate vehicles to different places, including their residences, for collecting evidence in the case.
