Handwara : Five security force personnel, including a Colonel, a Major and a police officer, were killed in the gunbattle with terrorists in Handwara in north Kashmir, Indian Army said on Sunday. "Four Indian Army personnel including the Commanding Officer, Major of 21 Rashtriya Rifles unit along with 2 soldiers and one Jammu and Kashmir Police jawan lost their lives in an encounter in Handwara in Jammu and Kashmir," Army officials said. The name of the 21 Rashtriya Rifles Commanding Officer, who lost his life in the Handwara operation, is Colonel Ashutosh Sharma. Dahod : Some migrant workers stranded in Khangela, Dahod pelted stones at police on Saturday, following which police vehicles were damaged. However, nobody suffered major injury during the incident. Speaking to ANI , Superintendent of Police, Dahod said, "Some anti-social elements pelted stones at us. Some of our vehicles were damaged but there were no major injuries. FIR is being registered, more than 40 people have been detained". "People from Uttar Pradesh came here. The administration and police had given them the assurance that as soon as their government gives a nod, we will arrange vehicles for them and they will be sent back," he added. Mumbai : The prisons department of Maharashtra has released more than 5,000 inmates from various prisons of the state till Saturday, an official said. To prevent the spread of coronavirus infection in overcrowded jails, the prisons department is releasing those inmates who are serving sentences of less than seven years on bail, he said. Indore:  Indore Police on Saturday found 18 people, most of them migrant workers, crammed inside a cement mixer-laden truck headed towards Uttar Pradesh from Maharashtra, an official said. New Delhi: The Special Cell of Delhi Police has registered a case of sedition against Chairman of Delhi Minority Commission Zafarul Islam Khan for a controversial social media post, an officer said on Saturday. The FIR was registered against Khan on 30 April under section 124 A (sedition) and 153 A (promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race, place of birth) after police received a complaint by a resident of Vasant Kunj. In the FIR, the complainant alleged that Khan's post was “provocative”, "deliberate” and seditious and intended to cause disharmony and create a rift in the society, police said, adding that the case is being investigated by the cyber cell. The Andhra Pradesh government is offering online coaching for the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) amid the nationwide coronavirus lockdown. The registration has begun on Andhra Pradesh State Council of Higher Education (AOSCHE)'s official website apsche.org as well as on jntua.ac.in . Bengaluru: The Karnataka government has decided to appeal to the Centre to drop Bengaluru rural district from the list of COVID-19 red zones as there are no fresh cases of coronavirus infections there, Revenue minister R Ashoka said on Saturday. "Presently there are no cases of COVID-19 in Bengaluru Rural district. Palghar: One of the persons arrested in connection with the Palghar lynching case, who was lodged in a police lock-up, has tested coronavirus positive, an official said on Saturday. Police have so far arrested 115 persons, including nine minors, in connection with the lynching of three men, including two seers, at Gadchinchale village in Palghar last month. The accused tested positive for the infection on Friday night, the official said. "He was kept in a police lock-up at Wada in the district along with 20 others. After testing positive, he was admitted to a government hospital in Palghar," district civil surgeon Dr Kanchan Wanere said. "Twenty others kept in lock-up with him have been quarantined along with around 23 police personnel, who came had come in contact with him," she said. Aurangabad:  Twenty persons currently residing in Gurdwara Langar Sahib at Nanded in Maharashtra have tested coronavirus positive, an official said on Saturday. Swabs of total 97 people residing in the gurudwara had been collected for testing. Of them 20 have tested positive for the infection, civil surgeon Dr Neelkanth Bhosikar said. "They have been admitted to NRI Bhawan COVID Care Centre in Nanded city," he said. Their samples had been collected on 30 April and 1 May, he said. Twenty-five of them have tested negative, while the reports of 41 others are awaited. Reports of 11 others are undecided, Bhosikar said in a statement. New Delhi: Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar on Saturday that the worst phase of coronavirus epidemic in India seemed to be over, but people should continue to follow all precautions and guidelines. India reports 1,218 COVID-19 more deaths, with 485 in Maharashtra alone; 37,336 cases across country

New Delhi: The toll due to COVID-19 pandemic climbed to 1,218 while, the number of confirmed cases reached 37,336 in India on Saturday, according to the Union Health Ministry. The number of active COVID-19 cases stood at 26,167, while 9,950 people have recovered and one patient has migrated, the ministry said. The total cases include 111 foreign nationals. A total of 66 deaths were reported since Friday evening of which 26 fatalities were reported from Maharashtra, 22 from Gujarat, eight from Madhya Pradesh, four from Rajasthan, two from Delhi and one each from Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Haryana and Tamil Nadu. Of the 1,218 deaths, Maharashtra remained the worst-affected state with 485 fatalities, followed by Gujarat at 236, Madhya Pradesh at 145, Rajasthan at 62, Delhi at 61, Uttar Pradesh at 42 and West Bengal and Andhra Pradesh at 33 each. CISCE says ICSE and ISC dates for remaining papers to be announced eight days ahead of examinations

The Council for the India School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) has said that it will hold ISC and ICSE exams for all remaining subjects/papers and that no exam has been cancelled. In a notice, the council has said that examination will be conducted within a period of 6 to 8 days , including the weekend. The council has also said that the revised schedule of the examinations will be announced eight days prior to the commencement of the assessments. Eight papers remain for ISC while exams for six subjects for ICSE had to be postponed due to the coronavirus lockdown. The exams for ISC which are yet to be conducted include Biology Paper 1, Business Studies, Geography, Sociology, Psychology, Home Science Paper 1, Elective English and Art paper 5. The subjects for ICSE include Geography, Biology, Economics, Hindi and Art. The council has also said that post examinations; CISCE shall declare the results within a period of 6 to 8 weeks. AICTE asks all management colleges to commence classes from 1 July, new academic session from 1 August

All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has directed all institutes approved by it to commence classes for existing students from 1 July, 2020. The academic session for newly admitted students will start from 1 August, 2020, AICTE said in its latest guidelines to its standalone postgraduate diploma in management (PGDM) and postgraduate certificate in management (PGCM) institutes. The last date for cancellation of seats of PGDM/PGCM courses is 25 July. The admission for courses will end on 31 July. "Candidates for open and distance learning courses can be admitted from 15 August," the AICTE informed. AICTE has also asked institutions not to hike the admission or other fee for the academic year 2020-2021. The technical education council has directed institutes not to force the selected candidates to pay advance fees during the COVID-19 lockdown.
