Arvind Kejriwal says 9,900 COVID-19 beds in Delhi free, number of patients requiring hospitalisation decreasing

New Delhi : Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday said that the number of coronavirus patients in the hospitals has "gone down" and added that 9,900 COVID beds are now free in the National Capital. He also claimed that a large number of people are also getting cured of the infection at home in Delhi. "Less and less people in Delhi are now requiring hospitalisation, more and more people are getting cured at home. Whereas there were around 2,300 new patients daily last week, the number of patients in hospitals has gone down from 6,200 to 5,300. Today, 9,900 corona beds are free," the Delhi Chief Minister tweeted. According to the Union Health and Family Welfare Ministry, Delhi's COVID-19 tally has reached 97,200. Narendra Modi's Leh visit: Indian Army calls criticism of medical facility 'malicious and unsubstantiated'

New Delhi : The Indian Army on Saturday termed as "malicious and unsubstantiated" criticism in some quarters about a medical facility in a military hospital in Leh where Prime Minister Narendra Modi interacted with the soldiers injured in the Galwan Valley clashes. In a statement, the Army said, "it is unfortunate that aspersions are being cast on how our brave Armed Forces are treated. The armed forces give the best possible treatment to their personnel." Three BSF personnel injured in attack by Bangladeshi smugglers along West Bengal border

Kolkata: Three Border Security Force (BSF) personnel have been injured in an attack by Bangladeshi smugglers along the India-Bangladesh international border in West Bengal, officials said on Saturday. The incident took place near the Bansghata post of the BSF in the North 24 Parganas district of the state during the intervening night of 3 to 4 July, they said. Troops of the 107th battalion of the force had laid an ambush in the border area and when a group of 10-12 Bangladeshi smugglers was spotted in the dead of the night (around 3:30 am), the BSF men challenged them. "The smugglers encircled the BSF party and brutally attacked them with bamboo sticks and sharp-edged cleaver-like weapons called ''Dah''," a senior BSF officer said. Three BSF men were injured in this attack, he said. The troops fired five rounds from their non-lethal pump action gun in self-defense and subsequently, the miscreants ran across the border towards Bangladesh, the officer said.

Tamil Nadu custodial deaths: Five accused transferred from Tuticorin Jail to Madurai Central jail

Thoothukudi : Five accused in case of alleged custodial torture leading to deaths of a father-son duo were transferred from Tuticorin jail to Madurai Central Jail on Saturday. Earlier today, Crime Branch-Crime Investigation Department (CB-CID) Inspector General Shankar said that after analysing the evidence in Tuticorin custodial death case, all accused will be taken into custody. "Five arrested so far, after analysing evidence we will take them in our custody (from judicial custody). We inquired about the approver (Constable Revathi) yesterday," said the Inspector General. Earlier this week, the Thoothukudi District court ordered a 15 days remand for three police officials - Inspector Sridhar, Sub-inspector Balakrishnan and Constable Murugan in Perurani Jail in connection with the alleged custodial deaths of a father and son. The Income Tax (I-T) department of India has once again extended the deadline for filing income tax return (ITR) for the financial year (FY) 2019-20 to 30 November 2020. The announcement of the extension was made by Income Tax of India on its official Twitter handle. "Understanding and keeping in mind the times that we are in, we have further extended deadlines. The Aligarh Muslim University has announced that it is postponing all examinations of final year/semester students this year that were scheduled to be held in July until further notice. The varsity in its notification said that the exams are being deferred due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the pending guidelines by the University Grants Commission (UGC) regarding examinations. “All examinations (including backlog/arrear papers) of final year/semester students for the session 2019-20, scheduled in the month of July, 2020, stand postponed till further orders,” the AMU notice said. The university said that further decision in the matter will be communicated after the guidelines notified by the Government of India/UGC.
