India's COVID-19 caseload rises to 90.95 lakh with 45,209 new cases; toll reaches 1,33,227

New Delhi: India's COVID-19 tally rose to 90.95 lakh on Sunday with 45,209 new cases, while the recoveries surged to 85,21,617, according to the Union Health Ministry's data. The death toll reached 1,33,227 with 501 more fatalities, while total coronavirus cases mounted to 90,95,806, the data updated at 8 am showed. The number of active cases remained below five lakh for the 12th consecutive day. The total recoveries have surged to 85,21,617, pushing the national recovery rate to 93.69 percent, while the COVID-19 case fatality rate has declined to 1.46 percent. There are 4,40,962 active cases in the country as on date which comprise 4.85 percent of the total caseload, the data stated. New Delhi: Delhi's minimum temperature dropped to 6.9 degrees Celsius on Sunday, the lowest in the month of November since 2003, as a cold wave swept parts of the city. The National Capital had recorded a minimum of 7.5 degrees Celsius on Friday, the lowest in the month in 14 years, according to the India Meteorological Department. "The Safdarjung Observatory which provides representative data for the city, recorded a minimum of 6.9 degrees Celsius. It is Delhi's lowest minimum temperature in the month since November 2003, when the city recorded a minimum of 6.1 degrees Celsius," said Kuldeep Srivastava, the head of the IMD's regional forecasting centre. Rajasthan imposes night curfew in eight districts to curb COVID-19, increases fine for not wearing mask

Jaipur: Amid spiralling COVID-19 cases, the Rajasthan cabinet on Saturday decided to impose night curfew in 8 districts and increased the fine amount on not wearing a face mask from Rs 200 to Rs 500, an official release said. Those venturing out to attend marriages, purchase essentials, train, bus and air travellers, and people related to essential services will be exempted, it said. The cabinet chaired by Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot met on Saturday night decided that a curfew will be clamped from 8 pm to 6 am in Jaipur, Jodhpur, Kota, Bikaner, Udaipur, Ajmer, Alwar and Bhilwara, it said. Markets, restaurants, shopping malls and other commercial establishments in the urban areas of these districts will be closed by 7 pm and night curfew will start from 8 pm, it added. A maximum of 75 percent employees will be called for duty in government and private offices in these districts where the number of employees is 100 or more. The staff will work on a rotation basis, the release said.

Former Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi's health condition deteriorated with multi-organ failure and he has become unconscious with difficulty in breathing, Assam Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Saturday. The 86-year old veteran Congress politician, who was on Non-Invasive Ventilation (NIV) since he was admitted at Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) on 2 November due to post-COVID complications, was put under invasive ventilation, the minister said. Chandigarh:  In a move that may bring relief to the state facing an acute shortage of essential supplies, Punjab farmer bodies protesting against the Centre’s farm laws on Saturday decided to lift their blockade of passenger trains for 15 days from Monday. However, the farmer bodies said they will again block the rail tracks if the government failed to resolve their issues. Meanwhile, Divisional Railway Manager (Ferozepur Division) Rajesh Aggarwal in a statement said as soon as farmers lift their blockade, the Railways will be ready to resume its services. New Delhi: The Enforcement Directorate on Saturday conducted multiple raids in Kashmir in connection with a money-laundering probe linked to alleged suspicious transactions in the J&K Bank. The central probe agency covered a total of seven locations — six in Srinagar and one in Anantnag district — as part of the searches conducted under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). One dead, several injured in Tripura Police firing as protests against Bru resettlement turn violent

One person was killed and five were seriously injured in North Tripura's Kanchanpur on Saturday after police opened fire on protesters, reports said. Lucknow: A civil rights body on Saturday claimed that members of the Hathras rape victim’s family are living in conditions akin to house arrest and they fear for their lives once the CRPF cover given to them is withdrawn. The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is making arrangements to conduct the annual board exams after a few months, and will soon reveal how it will be holding the assessments, reports quoted a top official as saying at an ASSOCHAM webinar on Friday. Anurag Tripathi, secretary, CBSE, was speaking about the Centre's New Education Policy (NEP) 2020. He was quoted by The Times of India as saying that during March-April they were "flummoxed about how to move forward, but schools and teachers rose to the occasion and transformed themselves with new technology for teaching purposes, turning online classes into the new normal". Seven charred to death in collision between car and dumper truck at Gujarat's Surendranagar

Surendranagar (Gujarat): Seven persons, including three children, were charred to death on Saturday when their car caught fire after colliding with a dumper truck in Gujarat's Surendranagar district, police said. The occupants of the car, all members of two families, were returning to their homes in Patan district when the incident occurred in early hours near Kherva village, deputy superintendent of police PK Patel told reporters. A woman was rescued from the SUV and admitted to a hospital, the officer said, adding that she is the lone survivor. "Members of two families had gone on a three-day trip, and were on their way from the temple town of Chotila in Surendranagar district when the accident occurred," the DySP said. Mumbai: The Maharashtra government is toying with the idea of suspending train and flight operations to and from Delhi in view of the rising coronavirus cases in the National Capital, a senior official said on Saturday. This is one of the steps being considered by the state government to curb the spread of the virus, he said. "Various measures are being discussed in order to curb the virus spread in the state, and suspension of train and flight operations to and from Delhi is one of them," Principal Secretary Sanjay Kumar told PTI . NCB recovers cannabis from comedian Bharti Singh, husband Haarsh Limbachiyaa's Mumbai residence

The NCB on Saturday, 21 November conducted a search at the residence of comedian Bharti Singh and her husband Haarsh Limbachiyaa in Mumbai and recovered small quantity of cannabis from the place, an official said. The search was conducted as part of the ongoing probe by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) into alleged drug use in the entertainment industry, he said. "A team led by NCB's zonal director Sameer Wankhede carried out a search at Bharti Singh's residence at Lokhandwala Complex in Andheri based on specific information. A small quantity of cannabis was recovered from her place," the official said. "Singh's name had cropped up during the interrogation of a drug peddler," he said. Fake TRP case: ED files complaint under PMLA, likely to summon officials of Republic TV and other accused

New Delhi/Mumbai:  The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has filed a money laundering complaint in the alleged TRP rigging scam that is being investigated by the Mumbai police, official sources said on Friday. They said the central probe agency has filed an enforcement case information report (ECIR), that is equivalent to a police FIR under the provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act. The ED complaint was filed after studying a Mumbai police FIR that was registered in October. The Republic TV channel, two Marathi channels and few other individuals are being probed by the police in this matter. Republic TV and other accused have denied wrongdoing and manipulation of the TRP (television rating points) system. Officials of the news channels and others named in the police FIR, apart from two former employees of Hansa research agency arrested by the Mumbai police in this case, will soon be summoned by the ED for questioning and recording of their statements, they said. Eight NCR districts in Uttar Pradesh account for over 25% of state's active COVID-19 cases

Noida: Uttar Pradesh's eight districts that lie in the National Capital Region (NCR) account for over 25 percent or one-fourth of the state's active COVID-19 cases and nearly 11 percent of the deaths linked to the disease, according to official data. Gautam Buddh Nagar, Ghaziabad, Hapur, Bulandshahr, Meerut, Muzaffarnagar, Baghpat and Shamli districts are a part of the NCR, a wider region that also comprises districts from Haryana, Rajasthan and entire Delhi. According to official data updated till Friday, there were a total of 5,21,988 COVID-19 cases in the state, while the number of active cases stood at 23,357, of which 5,863 (25.10 percent) were in its NCR districts. Meerut has the highest number of 2,102 active cases among these eight districts, followed by Gautam Buddh Nagar (1,401), Ghaziabad (1,195), Muzaffarnagar (431), Bulandshahr (304), Shamli (168) Hapur (167) and Baghpat (149), according to the data. New Delhi:  India's COVID-19 caseload climbed to 90.50 lakh on Saturday with 46,232 new infections while, the number of people who have recuperated from the disease went past 84.78 lakh, said the health ministry. New Delhi: Delhi's air quality recorded a marginal improvement on Saturday morning due to favourable wind speed but remained in the "poor" category. Government agencies said the air quality index (AQI) was likely to improve to the "moderate" category later in the day. The city's AQI was 263 at 9 am. The 24-hour average AQI was 296 on Friday. It was 283 on Thursday and 211 on Wednesday. An AQI between zero and 50 is considered "good", 51 and 100 "satisfactory", 101 and 200 "moderate", 201 and 300 "poor", 301 and 400 "very poor", and 401 and 500 "severe". Bathinda: A Dera Sacha Sauda follower and the father of an accused in a sacrilege incident was shot dead by two unidentified assailants on Friday, police said. Manohar Lal (53) was killed inside his shop at Bhagta Bhai Ka village in the district, they said. Bullets were fired from a close range by the assailants who had their faces covered with a mask. The incident was captured on the CCTV cameras installed at the shop, they said. The motive behind the killing is not loot since the assailants did not take away anything from the victim's money exchange shop, they said. Kerala Teachers' Eligibility Test (TET) 2020 registration has started by Kerala Pareeksha Bhavan. Eligible and willing candidates can apply at ktet.kerala.gov.in by 27 November. CA November 2020 exam to start tomorrow; ICAI tells COVID-19 positive students not to appear for test

The ICAI CA 2020 exam will be conducted on Saturday, 21 November. Ahead of the exam, the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) has released an announcement for candidates who have positive for COVID-19 and who "intend to appear for the examination". The ICAI's statement said that it will take serious action against such candidates who will "not only endanger the health and safety of other candidates and the exam personnel but also be in contravention of law and the directions of authorities". The Central Seat Allocation Board (CSAB) is expected to declare the first allotment results in the special round of counselling for admission into engineering courses shortly on its official website csab.nic.in . The Board had earlier confirmed the date for allocation of seats under the special rounds in an official notification . It is to be noted here that only those candidates will be considered for seat allocation who have properly registered themselves, submitted the application fees and locked their choices.
