The success Chandrayaan-3 is taking India’s expectations in space to a new high and in the same view ISRO Chief S Somanath on Sunday claimed that India can reach even Mars and Venus if the space sector gets more investment. “India has the capability to travel to the Moon, Mars and Venus but we need to increase our confidence. Apex court says a person can't be convicted only the basis of a dying declaration

In a recent ruling, the apex court emphasized that a person cannot be found guilty solely based on a dying declaration if there exists uncertainty about its accuracy and acquitted an individual who had previously been convicted and sentenced to death. The conviction was founded upon statements made by the deceased prior to their demise, where the deceased had accused the person of burning his own son and two brothers alive. A panel of Judges, namely B R Gavai, J B Pardiwala, and Prashant Kumar Mishra, acknowledged that dying declarations carry significant weight due to being articulated by an individual during their final moments, when motives for falsehood are subdued. Such declarations are often driven by an urge to reveal the truth, influenced by the gravest considerations. Nonetheless, the Judges cautioned against absolute reliance on this evidence. The Judges pointed out, “Relying solely on a dying declaration for a conviction is unsafe in cases like the present one, where do

Chandrayaan-3 costs lesser than big films: How India keeps its space missions frugal

India is keeping its fingers crossed and its eyes trained on the ambitious Chandrayaan-3. The spacecraft heading toward the Moon is all set to touchdown on 23 August, Wednesday, around 6.04 pm IST. This is India’s third attempt at a lunar mission and while Chandrayaan-3 is bigger and better than its predecessor, Chandrayaan-2, it is surprisingly cheaper. We take a look at the money involved and how the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) manages to keep the costs of its projects low. What is the cost of Chandrayaan-3? After the Chandrayaan-2 mission failed, India announced Chandrayaan-3 . It was expected to be launched in 2021 but the COVID-19 pandemic led to delays and the spacecraft took flight on 14 July. Now as it hurtles closer to the Moon, history is in the making. If successful, India will become the first country to land on the treacherous and unexplored south pole of the satellite. Not so soft: Chandrayaan 3 will touch down on moon at speed that will crush a human to pulp

If there’s one thing that Russia’s Luna-25 mission and countless other space missions before it has shown, is that a soft landing on the Moon, especially around its poles, is an extremely difficult thing to do. With Chandrayaan-3’s Vikram, ISRO plans to do the impossible – be the first space mission to successfully execute a soft landing procedure on the Moon’s south pole. But how exactly is it planning to go about this? On August 23, during its last 15 minutes of attempting to softly land on the Moon, the lander has a tricky move to pull off. It needs to shift from flying horizontally at high speed to being vertical, setting itself up for a gentle descent onto the lunar surface. Everything will have to be done within 15 minutes this Wednesday evening, and every step during these 15 minutes are going to be a make or break for the whole mission. Back in July 2019, when the first try for the Chandrayaan-2 mission got cancelled by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), K Sivan,
