Soft Power Projection: Washington State Senate passes Resolution welcoming India’s 75th Republic Day
India has expressed its gratitude to the Washington State Senate and all the Senators who on 26 January, 2024, passed a resolution welcoming India’s 75th Republic Day.
On 26 January this year, Washington State Senate passed a Resolution welcoming India’s 75th Republic Day.
“The Washington State Senate honor the 2024 Republic Day of India as a symbol of the shared values of democracy, diversity and inclusion between the nation of India and both the State of Washington and the United States of America,” read the resolution passed by the Washington State Senate.
“Thank you Washington State Senate and all Senators who supported this Resolution!” the Consulate General of India, Seattle said in a post on social media platform, X.

Washington State Senate honors 2024 Republic Day of India
"January 26, 2024, marks the 75th Republic Day in India, commemorating the effective adoption of the Constitution of the world's largest democracy... India solidifies their achievement of independence from British rule, through peaceful and non-violent resistance," the resolution read.
"India's Constitution requires equality under the law, and declared "that the State shall not deny to any person equality before the law or the equal protection of the laws within the territory if India," it further read.
"India has a strong tradition of maintaining democratic ideal through robust checks on those in power. Washington state has many cultural and economic ties to India, including more than 100,000 Indian Americans living in the state," the resolution read.
"Indian American are small business owners, entrepreneurs, and CEOs of Washington companies, including founding officers of many Washington-based tech companies... These businesses provide useful services, resources, and jobs to the people of this state," it read.
"Indian Americans have been emigrating to the West Coast since the 19th century, working in our most vital industries including agriculture, lodging and trade... Indian Americans reflect the values of inclusion and pluralism through their many cultural and religious identities, including Muslim, Sikh, and Hindu," it further read.
"Indian Americans serve selflessly in our armed forces and law enforcement, and contribute profoundly to the health care industry and Washington's institutions of higher education," the resolution added.
'US' relationship with India most consequential in the world'
On the 75th Republic Day of India, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken extended his wishes and said the Constitution of India continues to provide an enduring framework for the world's largest democracy and a foundation of its global leadership.
"On behalf of the United States of America, I congratulate the people of India on India's Republic Day. The Constitution of India continues to provide an enduring framework for the world's largest democracy and a foundation for its global leadership," Blinken said in an official statement.

"As President Biden has said, our relationship with India is one of the most consequential in the world," Blinken said.
He also hoped for deepening ties with between India and the US, and said: "The past year has been marked by important milestones in our Comprehensive Global and Strategic Partnership, including our cooperation throughout India's successful G20 Presidency and at the G20 Leaders' Summit. In the year ahead, we look forward to further deepening the vibrant people-to-people ties between our countries and advancing our ambitious agenda for cooperation on our most vital priorities. I warmly extend my best wishes to the Indian people as they celebrate this special occasion."
