Former Andhra Pradesh chief minister Chandrababu Naidu arrested in corruption case: Report

Former Andhra Pradesh chief minister and Telegu Desam Party (TDP) chief Chandrababu Naidu was arrested by the the Nandyal Police in the early hours of Saturday in connection with the AP Skill Development Corporation scam, according to a report.

ANI news agency reported that Criminal Investigation Department (CID) served arrest warrant to the the TDP chief.

In a video posted by the agency, Naidu is seen arguing with the police officials as he is surrounded by his security guards and supporters.

According to a greatandhra.com report, a large contingent of the police led by Nandyal range DIG Raghurami Reddy swooped on the camp of Naidu in the town at around 3 am to take him into custody.

However, they faced stiff resistance from the TDP workers who gathered there in large numbers. Even the SPG forces did not allow the police, saying they cannot allow anybody to reach Naidu till 5.30 am as per the rules, added the report.

Finally, at around 6 am, they knocked at the doors of Naidu’s house, brought him down and arrested him.

After initial resistance, Naidu was taken into the vehicle. He is being shifted to Vijayawada, added the report.

“CID has taken Chandrababu for a medical check-up after high blood pressure and diabetes were detected. We are approaching the High Court for bail,” said Naidu’s counsel.

Meanwhile, Andhra Pradesh Police also detained TDP chief’s son Nara Lokesh in East Godavari district.
