Maharashtra Assembly Election 2019, Malshiras profile: NCP's Uttamrao Shivdas Jankar takes on BJP's Ram Vittal Satpute

Malshiras Assembly Election 2019 | The Election Commission of India (ECI) announced the dates for the Maharashtra and Haryana Assembly elections. Voting for the 288-member Assembly will be held on 21 October in a single phase. The counting of votes and final results will be declared on 24 October, authorities said. The term of the Devendra Fadnavis-led current Maharashtra Assembly will end on 9 November.

The notification and nomination process for the Assembly election was issued on 27 September. Candidates filed their nominations latest by 4 October. The scrutiny of nomination papers was done on 5 October and the last date to withdraw candidature from the electoral battle was 7 October. A total of 95,473 polling stations will be set up for over 8.95 crore voters in Maharashtra.

There are two reserved seats under Scheduled Caste category in the Solapur district — Mohol and Malshiran.

Results in previous elections—The current MLA and NCP representative Dolas Hanumant Jagannath has won consecutive assembly elections held in 2009 and 2014. In 2014, Jagannath defeated independent candidate Khandagale Anant Jayakumar's 70,934 votes by securing 77,179 votes for the seat. In 2009, Jagannath won the seat by securing 82,360 votes against independent candidate Jankar Uttamrao Shivadas's 66134 votes.

In 2004, NCP candidate Mohitepatil Vijaysingh Shankarrao won the seat by securing 1,32,543 votes against BSP candidate Deshmukh Ramdas Abasaheb's 27,831.

In 1999, Shankarrao defeated BJP candidate Adv. Patil Subhash balasaheb's 56692 votes by securing 76576 votes.   

In 2019 elections, Uttamrao Shivdas Jankar of NCP will contest against Ram Vittal Satpute of BJP, Shrikrushna Dyandev Prakashale of BSP.

After genome sequencing of over 10,000 COVID-19 cases in India, researchers have discovered a new variant with two new mutations which may be better at evading the immune system. In 15-20 percent of samples from the Indian state of Maharashtra (the state accounting for 62 percent of cases in the country) a new, double mutation in key areas of the virus has been detected. These are now known as the E484Q and L452R mutations. What makes the variant different? Both these mutations are concerning because they are located in a key portion of the virus – the spike protein – that it uses to penetrate human cells. Spike proteins attach via a “receptor binding domain”, meaning the virus can attach to receptors in our cells. These new mutations include changes to the spike protein that make it a “better fit” for human cells. This means the virus can gain entry more easily and multiply faster. Aditya L1 Mission: Spacecraft is nearing its final phase, says ISRO chief

Aditya L1 spacecraft is nearing its final phase, and manoeuvres to enter the L1 point are expected to be completed by January 7, 2024, according to ISRO Chairman S Somanath. “Aditya is on the way. I think it has reached almost its final phase,” the ISRO chief told PTI on the sidelines of an event organised at VSSC to commemorate the 60th year of the First Sounding Rocket Launch. Aditya L1, India’s first space-based mission to study the Sun, was successfully launched on September 2 from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre (SDSC) in Sriharikota. The spacecraft, after travelling about 1.5 million km from Earth over 125 days, is expected to be placed in a Halo orbit around the Lagrangian point L1, considered closest to the Sun.
