TDP's N Sivaprasad dies of renal failure at 68; Chandrababu Naidu remembers former MP's fight for special status to Andhra Pradesh

Amaravati: Senior Telugu Desam Party (TDP) leader and former Member of Parliament (MP) N Sivaprasad died due to renal failure on Saturday, party sources said. He was 68.

He is survived by his wife and two daughters, TDP sources said in Amravati.

Sivaprasad had been suffering from kidney ailment for some time now and was admitted to hospital in Tirupati a few days ago. On Thursday, he was shifted to Apollo hospitals in Chennai, where he died.

TDP president N Chandrababu Naidu visited Sivaprasad in the hospital on Friday.

Sivaprasad was elected to the Lok Sabha from Chittoor (SC) constituency twice. He had also served as a member of (united) Andhra Pradesh Assembly and Minister for Information and Public Relations in the Chandrababu Naidu cabinet.

Sivaprasad became well-known as the MP who donned fancy dresses, enacting a unique character every day, during protests outside Parliament opposing the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh (2013-14) and later demanding special category status to the state (2018-19).

A trained doctor, Sivaprasad had a love for acting and began as a stage artist. He also acted in several Telugu movies alongside top stars like Chiranjeevi.

He also received the Nandi award from the AP government as the best villain.

Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy and other leaders expressed grief over the former MPs death.

"I lost my close friend. Sivaprasad fought relentlessly for the rights of AP. His death is loss not only to Chittoor district but also the entire state," Chandrababu said.

It was sad that the TDP lost two senior leaders within a week, he said, referring to the death of former speaker Kodela Sivaprasada Rao.

After genome sequencing of over 10,000 COVID-19 cases in India, researchers have discovered a new variant with two new mutations which may be better at evading the immune system. Aditya L1 Mission: Spacecraft is nearing its final phase, says ISRO chief

Aditya L1 spacecraft is nearing its final phase, and manoeuvres to enter the L1 point are expected to be completed by January 7, 2024, according to ISRO Chairman S Somanath. “Aditya is on the way. I think it has reached almost its final phase,” the ISRO chief told PTI on the sidelines of an event organised at VSSC to commemorate the 60th year of the First Sounding Rocket Launch. Aditya L1, India’s first space-based mission to study the Sun, was successfully launched on September 2 from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre (SDSC) in Sriharikota.
