Around 200 Sri Lankan refugees submit petitions to district collector's office seeking Indian citizenship in Madurai

More than 200 Sri Lankan refugees living in Tamil Nadu's Madurai district for 29 years submitted petitions to collector's office on Monday to seek the Indian citizenship. 457 Sri Lankan refugees have been living in Madurai ever since they fled their worn-torn nation in 1990 in the refugee camps provided by the Tamil Nadu government. The lack of Indian citizenship makes it difficult for these refugees to apply for a secured job.

Thiruvananthapuram : Over 2,800 people are under observation in Kerala for the novel coronavirus infection and no new cases have been reported, Kerala Health Minister KK Shailaja said. India's three positive cases for the virus have been reported from Thrissur, Alappuzuha and Kasaragod districts. At least 2,826 people are under surveillance in the state as of Thursday, a press release quoting the minister said. Of this, 2,743 are under home quarantine and 83 are in isolation wards of various hospitals, a press release quoting the minister said tonight. The samples of at least 263 people, who have shown minor symptoms for the virus, have been sent to the National Institute of Virology at Pune and results of 229 samples came out negative, according to the release. Home Minister Amit Shah has recovered, likely to be discharged in short time, says AIIMS

New Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who was admitted to AIIMS-Delhi on 18 August for post-COVID care, has recovered and is likely to be discharged in a short time, hospital authorities said on Saturday. "Amit Shah, Union Home Minister, is admitted at AIIMS, New Delhi for post-COVID care. He has recovered and is likelyto be discharged in a short time," the AIIMS said in a statement. On 2 August, Shah, 55, had said on Twitter that he had tested positive for COVID-19. He had undergone treatment for the coronavirus infection at Medanta Hospital and was discharged after he tested negative for the disease.
