Assam hooch tragedy: At least 84 killed, 200 hospitalised; 12 arrested for making spurious liquor

A number of women are among the casualties in the Assam hooch tragedy. Many of those that drank the liquor were tea plantation workers who had just received their weekly wages, according to a state government official.

There was action and drama in Jharkhand on Wednesday night. Hemant Soren, the state’s chief minister, resigned from his post, and was subsequently arrested by the Enforcement Directorate.
