Although female voter turnout has been increasing across India - from 51 percent in 1980 to 66 percent in 2014 - it remains low when compared with the adult population sex ratio in most states.

There was action and drama in Jharkhand on Wednesday night. Hemant Soren, the state’s chief minister, resigned from his post, and was subsequently arrested by the Enforcement Directorate.
