Centre ‘busts’ 8 YouTube channels for spreading fake news

The Centre on Tuesday said it has “busted” eight YouTube channels, with a cumulative subscriber count of nearly 23 million, for spreading fake news such as declaration of early Lok Sabha polls and banning electronic voting machines. Government officials said videos on these YouTube channels – Yahan Sach Dekho, Capital TV, KPS News, Sarkari Vlog, Earn Tech India, SPN9 News, Educational Dost and World Best News — were fact-checked by the Press Information Bureau for spreading false news. World Best News, a YouTube channel with over 1.7 million subscribers and more than 18 crore views, was found to be misrepresenting the Indian Army, officials said. They said the channel Educational Dost, with over 3.43 million subscribers and 23 crore views, was spreading false information about government schemes, while SPN9 news with over 4.8 million subscribers and 189 crore views was propagating fake news pertaining to the president, prime minister and several central ministers. Haryana BJP delegation to visit Nuh on Wednesday; AAP follows suit, writes to DGP

A delegation of the BJP’s Haryana unit will visit Nuh on Wednesday and take stock of the situation in the district which witnessed communal clashes last week over an attempt to stop a Vishwa Hindu Parishad procession. The opposition Aam Aadmi Party’s Haryana unit chief Sushil Gupta said a delegation of his party will visit the “violence-affected people of Mewat area” on the same day. According to the BJP’s state unit release, the ruling party delegation will be led by Haryana BJP chief O P Dhankar and will also comprise Haryana Minister Banwari Lal and some party MLAs. The delegation will visit many places in Nuh and take stock of the situation after talking to the people there, it said. AAP Cabinet reshuffle: Delhi Services and Vigilance Dept handed over to Atishi from Saurabh Bharadwaj

The Aam Aadmi Party has announced a major cabinet reshuffle, stripping Saurabh Bharadwaj of the post of Service and Vigilance and handing it over to Delhi PWD Minister Atishi. Atishi will now handle the portfolios of both Finance, Service and Vigilance. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has sent has forwarded the proposal of rejig to Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena. The reshuffle comes just a day after the Delhi Ordinance Bill was passed in both houses of Parliament. Both Atishi and Bharadwaj were inducted into Delhi’s cabinet following the resignation of Manish Sisodia and Satyendar Jain. Currently, Atishi, the sole woman in the seven-member Delhi Cabinet, has the most number of portfolios allotted to her. The ‘ayes’ outvoted the nays on Monday night in the Rajya Sabha as the contentious Delhi services bill, formally known as the Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi (Amendment) Bill, was put to vote. Amid the Opposition’s din, 131 MPs voted in favour of it and 102 opposed it after Home Minister Amit Shah introduced the bill in the Upper House. Interestingly, the discussion on the Bill even saw former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh being brought in on a wheelchair to the Rajya Sabha. The bill, which was passed by the Lok Sabha last week, replaces an ordinance promulgated by the Centre for handling the transfers and postings of officials in the Delhi government.
