Six held for forcing Muslim man to chant 'Jai Shri Ram' in Kanpur; three released on bail, says police 9:22

Six people, including one having affiliation to the Vishva Hindu Parishad, were arrested for allegedly thrashing a Muslim e-rickshaw driver here and asking him to chant "Jai Shri Ram", police said on Friday. Three arrested on Thursday night were released on bail by police. The other three, who were held on Friday, are still in police custody. Following the arrests, as per The Quint , some workers from the Hindutva group Bajrang Dal staged protests outside the office of the Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) in Kanpur. They left only after the police promised to conduct a fair investigation. But they reportedly warned that they would return if those arrested were not released soon, according to NDTV . The incident had taken place at the Kacchi Basti locality in the Barra area of Kanpur on Wednesday. Snake bites man in Odisha, he bites back and kills it in bizarre 'revenge'

In an unusual and bizarre case, a 45-year-old man was reportedly bitten by a snake after which the man managed to capture the serpent and kill it to death by biting it back. This strange incident happened in a remote village in Odisha's Jajpur district. The man has been identified as Kishore Badra of Gambharipatia village which comes under Salijanga panchayat in the state. The incident took place when Badra was returning home after work through his paddy field on Wednesday night (11 August), after which a snake bit him on his leg. In a bid to take revenge, angry Badra somehow managed to get hold of the serpent and bit it multiple times before killing it. “Something bit me on my leg while I was returning home on foot last night. I switched on my torch and found it to be a poisonous krait snake. Tamil Nadu govt slashes petrol price by Rs 3; finance minister P Thiagarajan says state will bear cost

Chennai: In a major relief to the working-class in the State, the Tamil Nadu government on Friday announced to reduce the price of petrol by Rs 3 per litre. Tamil Nadu Finance Minister Palanivel Thiagarajan while presenting the budget on Friday said that the petrol prices have been slashed by Rs 3 and because of this, the state government will face a deficit of Rs 1,160 crores in a year. "Tamil Nadu has 2.6 cores of people using two-wheelers. Rs 3 is reduced in petrol by the Tamil Nadu government. Because of this government will face a Rs 1,160 crores deficit," said the state minister. According to the revised budget estimates 2021-2022, the state government has decided to reduce the effective rate of tax on petrol by Rs 3 per litre and thereby provide major relief to the toiling working-class people in the State. The South Asian Engagement Foundation said it is working with The Durst Organisation to light up the One World Trade Center's 408 feet tall and 758-tonne spire as well as its podium in hues of the Indian tricolour on August 15th.
